EQUATOR is an imaginary line around the middle of the EARTH, halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole, at 0° LAT giving the NORTHERN & SOUTHERN HEMISPHERES. And for that reason it is also a GREAT CIRCLE as well. The Earth is the widest at its EQUATOR
